We love this because..
We adore this coastal gem because it's not just a house; it's a living testament to the passage of time and generations. This little blue beach house on the bay was originally constructed a century ago, and it has since served as a cherished holiday retreat where countless memories were etched into its walls. Through the years, it has embraced and nurtured our family, providing solace and adventure in equal measure.
Our most treasured feature of this haven, however, is the coveted boatshed situated just across the road from the remarkably serene section of Port Phillip Bay beach. With an esky and towels in hand, we make the short journey to this beachside oasis. Flinging open its doors, we arrange deck chairs, chill champagne, and marvel at the panoramic view that stretches from the beach to the boats bobbing in the water, all framed by two elegant leaning trees. It's a picture-perfect vista that beckons us to unwind. As our children frolic in the waves, we can sip our drinks in the cool shade of those same trees, keeping a watchful eye on their beachside adventures.
Fun Fact: The name Leaning Tree itself is a tribute to the land's history. It harks back to an era when leaning tea trees were a common sight along the foreshore and its surroundings. This unique phenomenon was a consequence of extensive felling of large banksias and she-oaks in the mid to late 1800s for building timber and fuel for the numerous lime kilns. This ecological disruption spurred the rapid, spindly growth of tea trees, causing them to sway and lean.
The beach house, a classic from the 1920s, resides just a stone's throw away from the bay beach, a pioneering dwelling among the early structures between Rosebud and Rye. A recent stylish renovation has seamlessly blended modern comforts with the timeless charm of a retro beach cottage. Its three bedrooms exude a snug and inviting atmosphere, as befitting a century-old cottage. The cozy lounge looks out onto the garden, and a spacious communal kitchen and dining area connects to the rear of the house. Outside, a simple deck offers a perfect spot to soak up the sun, and there's an outdoor shower for a refreshing cleanse after the beach, along with a barbecue for laid-back outdoor meals.
We also cherish the convenience of being able to stroll to our favourite cafe, The Kitchen, and an even closer culinary delight, Veraison Restaurant. A short drive opens up a world of relaxation at the Peninsula Hot Springs or Alba Thermal Springs, a round of golf at one of the many courses, wine tastings at The Cups Estate, or an exploration of the Boneo Maze and Wetlands.
The property is protected from the road with a very high fence and remote control gate keeping kids and pets safe from the road.
Leaning Tree, with its rich history, character, and coastal allure, stands ready to welcome your visit. It's more than just accommodation; it's a piece of the Peninsula's heritage and a portal to the wonders of this beautiful region, both natural and cultural.
