About this property

Imagine Woodstock Byrdcliff House

The Byrdcliffe House sits on the mountain side above Woodstock’s town square less than 1 mile away. The house is approached by a half circle driveway where you can park off the road. There are a few steps from the driveway and a walk to the house.

You will be surprised at the spacious view when entering the bright house.
From the tiled entrance area which has a bank of windows, you enter the living room with cathedral ceilings, skylights and a large mullion window. The furnishings are colorful, modern and comfortable. Among the many amenities there is a land phone, a flat screen TV’s, Bluetooth for your tunes and Wi-Fi for the house. The Wood burning stove and large stone fireplace is where the painter George Alt had a bright red stove, he once lived in the house and you can see his painting of it in our photographs. The floors are pine throughout the house. The living room and the kitchen-dining area are open separated only by two wide pine steps. From the kitchen and it’s floor to ceiling windows you can see the surrounding deck, pool, spa and outdoors.

The Kitchen is painted in light yellow equipped with cooking stove, toaster oven, microwave, Bella coffee maker, French press, blender, pots and pans, knives, cutlery and all the things you need to cook, eat, drink and be merry. If you want to hang out while someone is cooking you can sit at the bar surrounding the kitchen. The large country antique tavern table in the center of the room was retrieved from a Soho restaurant. The kitchen’s sliding glass doors provide easy access to the two tier wrap around deck where it’s super easy to barbeque or eat outside.
.
The welcoming large cheerful master bedroom has a king bed. There is a small couch to get warm on next to the fireplace, a flat screen TV, air conditioning, comfortable wingback chair for reading or relaxing and in the summer the French doors open to the outside pool.

The second bedroom is entered from the tiled entrance. Away from the rest of the house, this room is cozy with a queen bed, flat screened TV, windows, large closet, air conditioning and interesting art work.

Off the living room to the right is a small sitting room with a writing table and a slay bed couch that can double as a single bed if there is an extra guest.

The bathroom has a really large claw foot tub, a separate shower with all the extras, towels, and hairdryer. If you need, there’s a washer and dryer in the heating room.

Outside from the sunny cedar deck you can see the scope of the completely fenced in private one acre. The top deck has outdoor furniture, tables /chairs and a gas BBQ . The lower tier deck has a large patio table with an umbrella, chairs and lights for night use.

From the deck you look down on the pool, and with only a few steps you are there. The pools cedar decking is surrounded by forsythia and lilacs bushes which provides privacy. There, you can barbecue, snack, or sunbath on lounge chairs. The pool size is 40 x 20 feet, 4 to 9 feet deep. The pool light welcomes night swimming and is beautiful to just look at from the deck or inside the Byrdcliffe House. It’s open May 15th until Oct.1st

Beautiful house and property!
We had a great time at Byrdcliffe house. We stayed for a month. The pool is amazing, surrounded by trees and a large yard. Lots of privacy but about a 15 minute walk to town, 3 minute drive. The house is comfortable and homey, and has all the things you need. It was a peaceful stay, a great escape from the city and we are already ready to book for next summer, but for longer. Mike the manager was responsive to any question and got back to you right away. Woodstock has good restaurants, nearby hikes, creeks to swim in etc. even during a pandemic it was a really great visit. Thanks again Mike! we will be back!

Worst stay of our lives - horrible host - terrible house
We rented the house for 4 nights and we left after the 1st night. Not only the house is in horrible conditions (wood floor was rot, fridge and freezer did not work properly – almost all our food went bad), but the main issue was that there was NO RUNNING WATER. When we contacted the host/ landlord Mike, he was extremely rude and said that we had used too much water. We had just arrived! Mike is a horrible person and acted in bad faith the whole time. We were all astonished with his behavior. As this house had some bad reviews, I made sure to call him before booking to ask some questions about the reviews – on the phone he was pleasant and blamed the bad reviews on the guests. Once I booked, he never replied to any of my messages. I tried to call and text him before the check in date and he would not pick up… after I insisted a few times, he eventually picked up and he didn’t even know which house I was renting. He also said not to call him anymore. I should have known there and then that he was up to no good. When we got in the house and realized how horrible it was and the fact that there was no running water, we called Mike and he was extremely rude and said that the house had water and it was not his fault. We had to put pool water in a bucket to use to flush the bathroom. It was a nightmare. We came back the next day as house was uninhabitable. We tried to contact Mike several times to request a refund, and he refused to pick up the call or respond to messages. HomeAway also was not able to help as they said this was a maintenance issue and only the landlord could provide the refund. Long story short, we lost our money and had the worst rental experience of our lives. I can’t understand how HomeAway allows him to keep this property in their platform. Be aware.

Rustic Woodstock Charm
This house has a lot of rustic charm, and the pool is a welcome relief on a hot August day (and quite lovely the way the flower bushes are landscaped around it). Recommended for people looking for a real Woodstock/Byrdcliffe feel. Management quickly responded to any questions I had about the house.

This is an older property that has not been kept up and although it looks nice, it is very dated.
We rented this property for 4 nights over Memorial weekend, and ended up staying only 3 nights as we were very disappointed on several accounts. The entry way was dirty when we first walked in. The high ceiling fan was so caked with dirt that we were afraid to turn it on for fear that the dirt would fly everywhere. Although the front door was locked, both sliding glass doors were unlocked when we arrived. We had come there for both work and leisure and found out within a half hour that the internet did not work. The manager was not helpful and we had to call the cable company ourselves to get it back up and running. The pool was very dated and dirty. The hot tub was unusable as the jets did not work properly and there was significant sediment in the bottom. The refrigerator barely kept things cold, and the freezer was not cold enough to make ice or keep anything frozen. Overall a very very disappointing experience. The manager seemed to feign that everything was just fine when he checked it.

Magically charming in the Catskills
The Byrdcliff House met every need and there were many: location, pet-friendly, spacious enough to accommodate two of us working remotely full-time and two large dogs, and activities nearby. The house really is magical - you have to stay to understand why. We loved the area immensely - we were able to get out and explore with ease - from hiking to the Fire Tower, to counting waterfalls to Sundown, to going to Bethel (concert site of Woodstock), to the Saugerties lighthouse, to Kingston, to breakfast at the Cooper Lake firehouse, touring the Byrdcliff colony - hike to the quarry, dinner in Rhinecliff, drinks at the Diamond Mill, drive to the Eagles aerie, sunset at the reservoir. The house has great amenities - plenty of gourmet cookware, comfy beds, towels (bath and beach), spacious living areas and lots of light to let the sunshine in, high speed wifi and cable. The large is large (soggy in some spots and the fence needs a tad of repair - don't just leave your inquisitive dog outside). Snow removal was no problem, and we opted to do all of our laundry in nearby Kingston. The decks need some repairs - in the works. We found the neighbors charming, and Michael there when/if we needed him. We had our privacy and respected others' - zero issues. Hard to leave. Should you find your self at the Byrdcliff House - take care of her and show her some love. She will love you back.

Amazing and beautiful house! 5 stars~~~
Our host, Mike, was a treasure! The accommodations were outstanding~~~~~ Hidden Gem! Amazing House, in the Mountains of Woodstock. Located in Woodstock, 2 mile to the town Woodstock. Very spacious with all the amenities you could want of a rental. The bed was extremely comfortable, the living room with a wood burning stove was quaint and cozy. The place is clean and meticulously neat .It was a comfortable, private house with a deck, pool and hot tub. We sat on the deck under the trees and enjoyed the fresh air! Perfect location. Mike, is the best! If you call him for anything he always is willing to help! I will be back to rent the property! 5 stars!!!!!!! Thank you Mike, for a great Rental! This is my 2 second property I went from Mike. He has my trust! See you soon! Thank you!!!!!!

Our advice: Buyer Beware
Before continuing, we wish to make clear that the owner both insinuated that the return of our security deposit was dependent on not saying anything negative & he bullied us not to write a review, stating that (and this is a quote from an email he sent) “I am assuming you will leave a nasty review of the Byrdcliffe house and me, I will look for it. I am able to leave a review about you and your husband that people will read.” We chose Byrdcliffe because the reviews were mostly glowing and it fit our criteria. We assumed the 2012 negative review was an aberration. Our experience was that this review was spot-on, and while some of the specifics had changed, it very accurately reflected our stay. The deck and steps are in such disrepair, they are dangerous. For the two of us, it was usable for our stay; were we a group where weight bearing would have been an issue or were we traveling with children, we wouldn’t have stayed. The smoke alarms were covered with trash bags & a working one was only provided after we had called for it. It sat on the counter during our stay - who knows where it went after we left. The laundry is in a crawl space under the house & was filthy, dark & creepy. Mouse nests & traps were in evidence. We lost cable due to a storm & the owner refused to call for repair the morning after, telling us the cable company was closed on Sunday. Needing the internet for work, we called, set up a repair & got a $39 credit to the owner’s account, none of which was rebated to us as a “thanks.” It was not until we complained to Home Away that he got involved with follow-up. Regarding the pool, we believed we worked out an agreement in advance that we would pay our share of propane used for the pool heater above what he normally used, at an agreed upon price per gallon. We were to get propane tank readings at arrival & check-out. Despite our requests, that never occurred & we were given a bill we believed to be unreasonable. As pool owners for 20 years, we had a good idea of our usage & easily found out local propane pricing. Our settlement offer was rejected & the owner refused to provide “comp” bills from last summer to substantiate his fee request. As in the 2012 review, the owner frequently showed up unannounced. It is unfortunate that we are unable to post the photos we forwarded to Home Away’s management regarding the house conditions and it is our belief that this property should be closely monitored for its’ suitability.

Wonderful Property
We LOVED our stay at the Byrdcliffe House! It's absolutely gorgeous, comfortable, well-appointed, and luxurious. The beds are divine, and the kitchen is well-stocked with every appliance and dish one needs to have a lovely dinner in. The hot tub spa was wonderful, and I can't wait to go back in the summer when the pool is open!

My girlfriend and I needed a weekend away to relax and we couldn't have found a better place to do so!! Mike Young, the broker/owner was very responsive and accommodating making himself available if we needed him. The house was exactly how it was pictured!!! Very clean, nice, country feel to it with all of the amenities you could ask for. We had an amazing weekend and I highly recommend the house and working with Mike!!!

Quiet oasis away from NYC
My husband and I badly needed an escape from NYC, and this house fit the bill. A huge added plus is that the house is dog friendly, including an enormous yard that is completely fenced in - our NYC dog was ecstatic to run free, and we enjoyed extra sleep in the morning since "walking the dog" only involved opening the screen door. The pool was lovely, perfect temperature and very clean. The house overall was clean, well maintained and comfortable - the ceiling fan in the living room kept the house cooler in a heat wave. The master bedroom was huge and the bed was comfy. Note that this is an older house with a lot of character. Michael was friendly and helpful, and left snacks, coffee, orange juice and bagels for us. We had no problems with anything and appreciated the quiet, the green beauty, and peacefulness of the place. I would recommend this home.

Excellent Stay
Michael was extremely helpful in acommodating us in the Byrdcliffe house for our long weekend getaway. After quickly fixing a mixup with our reservation he called us to quickly go over the details of the house. We arrived at 10pm friday to a very clean and cozy house minutes from town with an amazing pool. The house had all we needed, Michael even left us some wine and fresh charcoal and fluid for the barbecue. The master bedroom was very spacious and clean, beds were cozy and the backyard was great for the dogs to run around freely. The house does show it's age but is very clean and charming. The pool does have some dark spots on the lining from mineral deposits but was perfectly clean and a nice cool 75deg. We're already looking forward to another stay before the summer is out.

Exactly what we were looking for
My boyfriend and I selected Byrdcliff House for an extended weekend getaway from NYC. We were pleased upon arrival to find the house matched the online pictures and description --- we liked the character of an older home. The house is located on a quiet edge of town, but only a few minutes to the grocery store, restaurants and shops in Woodstock. The entire house had incredible natural light, the kitchen had all the basic necessities for us to cook meals, and the bedroom fireplace and LR wood stove came in very handy --- we benefitted from a beautiful weekend with snow and cold weather!! The owner, Michael, was very responsive and friendly throughout the entire process. I would stay at this property again.

Cozy house close to town
Cozy, clean house with a really spacious master bedroom and nice guest bedroom as well. The pool was closed when we got there, but it was too cold and the hot tub was up and running. Dog friendly! The house is a 5 minute drive from the center of Woodstock, which has some lovely and also cozy dining and coffee options. Enjoyed our stay - of course the main complaint is just that we wish it could have been longer!

pleasant getaway
I had to take the time to write a review of this property considering how bad the last review was. I was hesitant to rent this home due to the fact that there were NO reviews. Can you imagine my disappointment on the day of our arrival, the last review was posted. I was very concerned when entering the home. However, I have to say that I disagree a lot with the last poster. The home is EXACTLY how it is pictured. The beds were super comfy and had beautiful ralph lauren linens :) There were amazing flat screen TVS throughout the home. The location to the center of town was just perfect! The home was super private, we were actually whispering outside because it was so quite and peaceful! The kids loved the private, big pool!!! The ac in the bedroom worked perfectly!!! We didnt need it because at night, there was an amazing cool breeze. However, I tried it to see if it did work considering what the last poster wrote. As far as being dirty, the home was perfectly cleaned when we arrived. In fact, the bathroom floor was still wet from being mopped. There were some small updates that are needed to be made, but like any older home that is expected. Michael was a PLEASURE!! He was soooo kind and helpful and recommended some amazing restaurants to us! We loved his recommendation to the Bear Cafe! It was the highlight of our trip. Obviously, he didnt enter the premises EVER ! He was a true pleasure. We wanted a quite relaxing mountain getaway and that is exactly what we got ! Every afternoon after swimming in the pool ( that was heated to 70 degrees like stated) we all took naps and entered into the town for a lovely dinner meal. We had a great time in a lovely home.

"Imagine" huge dissappointment
This property was a huge dissappointment because of the sub par conditions. The house was so dirty, there were even mouse droppings among the pots and pans in the bottom drawer of stove. The jets in hot tub were almost non-existent. The porch deck and steps were rotting. The portable A/C in bedroom was installed incorrectly for us so it didn't cool the room properly. The kitchen was poorly supplied. No radio or cd player which was on the list of amenities, thank goodness we brought our own. The bathroom shower curtain was so dirty that I had to ask owner to replace it and he did. No help from owner on local attractions and he showed up unannouced twice and stated he would continue to do so whenever he wanted. The state of neglect showed all the way down to not one smoke detector working in the house with a wood stove/fireplace, which we were told upon arrival that we were not allowed to use. The pool was nice but the temperture that it was set on was too cold. The photos do not accurately reflect the age and condition of this rental property. I would not recommend this rental property to anyone.
