The Story of El Lugar...
The owner of this property wrote a best selling novel called "The Place", and in it he described a sacred piece of land that was undisturbed by mankind, that nurtured and cared for all those who visited, and where the stewards of the land honored it by working with it rather than destroying it.
For many years the Author searched for a place that matched the energy of land he described in his novel, until one day a close friend stumbled upon a piece of property for sale in Sarapiqui, Costa Rica, and she told him he needed to come see it at once..
When he and his partner arrived, they instantly knew that this was the land they'd been asking for, and when they had trouble coming up with the financing to purchase the land, the owner told them he'd wait, as he knew the land had already chosen it's new owners.
When the sale was complete, they decided to further explore the 1200 acer property and come up with a name for the resort they would eventually build. As they wondered through the rain forest, engaged with the wildlife and swam in the river the properties edge, it finally dawned on them... Let's call it El Lugar!... Which means The Place in Spanish.
