About this property

Scarlet Oak: Ground level suite in a heritage country home and garden.

Scarlet Oak is a 1930's country home on the old Kirby Shingle Mill site, nestled under boughs of a heritage Scarlet Oak tree amid towering cedars, firs, and Pacific Dogwoods. The one+ acre property is known as one of Sooke's beautiful old gardens, and has been featured on the Sooke Secret Garden tour.

A variety of wildlife visits Scarlet Oak, and is a favourite stop over for migrating birds. This is a private gated property on a quiet street - on a popular local bike route just steps to the Galloping Goose Trail. The walking/cycling Trail can take you to the Sooke Pot Holes Regional Park over a railway trestle, and stretches as far away as Victoria. We are getting a number of guests riding bikes from Vancouver to Scarlet Oak, via BC Ferries, Lochside Regional trail, and Galloping Goose.

Your private spacious "no stairs" suite contains a full kitchen and is always supplied with coffee beans, teas and sugar. Soaps, shampoo/conditioner, and laundry soap are also provided.

Lovely
I enjoy gardens so this location was very lovely for our stay. Nancy and Tony are very friendly and accommodating. The details were impressive. Comfort was high on the list. Their dogs are most enjoyable! Not for very tall people (over 190 cm) as it is in the lower part of the house.

Loved This Place!
If you are looking for a beautiful and serene place in Sooke, surrounded by nature, Scarlet Oak has this all covered, and more! The stunning oak tree is central to the property and is surrounded by other trees and a glorious garden. Waking up in this peaceful place with the birds singing, while enjoying a coffee in the covered pavilion or in your private covered patio, was a wonderful way to start each day. The location is perfect for easy access to all the excursions and adventures to be had on this part of the Island and beyond. Nancy and Tony are wonderful, welcoming and kind people, who made our stay feel like a home away from home. The suite itself is very comfortable and leaves you wanting for nothing. We can’t thank them enough for everything and we will absolutely be back.
