Perfect Alaska Get-A-Way!!!

If you really want to experience Alaska, this is the way to go! A 20 minute water taxi from the Homer Spit (Mako's Water Taxi) to MacDonald Spit will put you in Alaska Heaven! Three perfectly placed cabins (2 on ocean & 1 on bay) afford all the luxury you need: private bath; stylish & unique private outdoor shower; fully equipped kitchen with propane stove top, micro, frig, sink, etc... The view is phenomenal & the volcanos across Cook Inlet sparkle in the sunset. My 15yr old son and I spent two nights here - we will spend more time next trip! We took the row boat out fishing in the bay & were treated with dive bombing eagles! When the tide went out, we dug for clams until 10 pm & filled the bucket! The following day we beach combed at low tide (on the ocean side) and were treated to a mid April snow. Never thought I would beach comb (tide pools) in the snow, but we did and it was amazing. Starfish, sea urchins, hermit crabs, and many other sea creatures. Kristi (host) provided a laminated brochure with pictures and descriptions of the tide pool sea life. My son could not believe all the sea life & plenty of otters checking us out too. We ended every day with a fire on the beach, right in front of our cabin! This is the way to experience Alaska.

Fisherman's Cabin Getaway

What a lovely place to spend a few days, to unplug from distractions. This beautiful cabin located between two beaches was so comfortable and the views were unforgettable. So many things to enjoy, like the hot tub, the sauna, the hammock, swing, kayaks, and the peace and quiet. Looking forward to coming back to experience this unique place again one day!

Alaska trip 2021

An amazing property if you want to experience the real Alaska. The hosts went above and beyond to make our stay fun and comfortable. This is not luxury and you are not catered to but if you bring your food (and there is plenty to catch on your own!) you will find everything you need for an amazing experience. DO NOT just book 2 nights as we did, you need at least 2-4 nights to take it all in and enjoy. Thank you Kristi and Locklan for one of the best vacations we have had, if only we stayed longer...

Between Beaches is a beautiful place for self-discovery

Can't find a more beautiful place to get away from all that usually distracts. The natural setting pops the eye. Kristi is an excellent host. The fresh fish she catches and cleans is for sale and makes for an excellent meal. The cabin feels like a step back in time .. enjoyed that. We happened to be staying during a cold and windy time. A suggestion: improving on the cabin's heating would be a plus. Everyone in the area are just nice and pleasant to speak to. A stay in Between Beaches is pretty close to perfect.

Great place

Our stay at the fisherman’s cabin was amazing! We had everything we needed. We went to the Safeway in Homer and got groceries for our one day two night stay. I thought we were going to have an oven, but luckily everything was ok to microwave. We took Mako’s water taxi over to the spit. They were about 45 minutes late picking us up, but we saw Orcas on the way back to Homer so it all worked out. Overall we had an amazing stay and we would love to one day come back and stay longer.

Can't wait to come back again!

The cabins and property are just as beautiful in real life as they are in the pictures. The cabins are small and cozy but even with three adults and a small dog we weren't crowded and we were provided with everything we needed (including all that you need in a kitchen other than food). The views are absolutely breathtaking no matter where you look, even from the window in the shower. Make a fire on the beach, enjoy the sound of the waves, and watch as the otters float by and bald eagles fly over your head. This is the perfect place to decompress and get away from reality but still close enough to civilization to have running water, cell service, and wifi if necessary. Will absolutely be coming back again to stay here.

Wow.

I can’t say enough about Between Beaches. We had an incredible weekend building bonfires, beach combing, kayaking and hanging out with sea otters and bald eagles. The cabin itself was beautiful with so many thoughtful, stylish touches. The property was gorgeous, with more beautiful views than we could count. The wood fire hot tub and sauna were so much fun. Oh and limitless firewood? LOVED it. The staff was kind and attentive and made us feel at home. 10/10 I would stay again!

Another great stay at Between Beaches!

My husband and I have been staying here once or twice a year for several years. We absolutely love it! The owner is friendly, helpful, and has an amazing art gallery. Plenty to do in and around town if you get tired of tidepooling, hammocks, fires on the beach, and beach walks. The property is well maintained and has everything you need - including a comfy heated bed! This is very special place. Owners are commercial fishers so if you don’t catch your own they always have plenty to share for a reasonable price. Wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Seldovia.

Breathtaking views!

The cabins and property were amazing! The rustic cozy cabins were nestled in trees that faced the ocean on one side and a bay on the other side. The bay side view resembled a mountain lake. Kristi is truly a wonderful host! We spent a great deal of time talking with Kristi in her art studio and looking at her gifted artwork. We took Hans Peterson’s Halibut Charter Adventures and caught huge Halibuts that we were able to have Seldovia Fishing Alaska ship the fish to our home! The best moments spent at the cabins were walks on the beaches, bonfires while watching sea otters go by and spotting a whale while fishing for Halibut. Thank you so much Kristi!!!

Romantic Getaway!

Had a wonderful long weekend spent in the fisherman’s cabin. Kristi was super welcoming and the property is so uniquely beautiful! Beach bonfires, naps on the hammock, kayaking around the spit- it was perfect! Next time we will probably bring ATVs to get around easier - but other than, we wouldn’t change a thing. Thank you! We hope to come back again soon!

Totally idyllic

Everything about this property was perfect. Loved the boat ride over where we could see the otters playing as we went across the bay. The cabin was so lovely, well equipped for cooking and super comfortable. The bed was divine and we slept so well listening to the waves wooshing on the pebble beach. Plenty of hot water and a very funky bathroom. We took the kayak out for a paddle and the water was so clear. There were otters so close that we could see what they were eating. We also loved watching the local bald eagle nests. The parents were teaching their young chick to fly. So special. It was fantastic sitting out in our deck chairs on the beach with a fire burning and watching the otters and the birds. So relaxing. Kristi was a great host and took good care of us. Not in your face but there if needed. We totally loved staying here and wish we could have stayed longer. Will definitely be back.

Beautiful location, quiet, serene getaway

We had a fantastic stay at Between Beaches Fisherman cabin. Amenities were comfortable with a rustic flavor, a true Alaskan experience. We took our own boat across so had the option to travel that way for hiking and other out door adventures but there are lots of local activities (clam digging, hiking, kayaking, beach walks) and Kristi et all are well set up to help visitors get to trail heads that are further away, even offering a taxi to and from Seldovia for those wanting to explore an old Russian fishing town! Firepit on the beach and watching the sunset was our major evening activity. We brought much of our own food, cooked and used the outdoor grill, all of which was perfect. Everything you need for this trip was accounted for, we will be going back!

A magical experience

I loved my stay at the fisherman's cabin. Kristi, the owner, is a wonderful artist which the cabin reflects. Her artwork makes the cabin seem enchanted. The location on the spit allows you to hear the ocean all night long and wake to the sounds of the birds. The eagles and otters kept me company as I walked the beach which is beautiful. I enjoyed exploring the tidal pools and took hundreds of pictures. Kristi was warm and inviting and made sure that I had everything I needed to make my stay comfortable. I even enjoyed the beach at night, I had a campfire on the beach with a glass of wine. I can't wait to return next year.

About the host

Hosted by Kristi McLean

Host profile image
Kristi, a life long Alaskan, was raised in a log cabin by her pioneer parents. By the age of 20, she had already coached skating and skiing, commercial fished, and was running her own boat and crew. Commercial fishing for salmon, halibut, crab, and herring have taken her throughout Alaska's waters. A self-taught artist, working primarily in clay, she spends her free time sculpting in her Alaska studio.

Why they chose this property

Aside from the cozy, well-appointed rental cabins and Beach House (VRBO#s 993127, 661493, 449876,1587179, 1620934 & 2073319) in a stunning and unique location, you are surrounded by art at Between Beaches. Ceramic sculptures, as well as installations made from copper, glass floats, driftwood, other beachcombing, finds, and clay are around every corner--even in your shower! Also, don't miss a tour of the art studio where Kristi works all winter to provide you with one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces and art kits that will provide perfect memories of your time at Between Beaches Alaska.

What makes this property unique

The waters of Kachemak Bay are some of the richest in the world for sea life, offering visitors an unforgettable experience. Here you will see whales, bald eagles, sea otters, and more from your doorstep. The unique geology of the area has produced a fantastic setting for beachcombing, tide pooling (best at minus tides), fishing, and wildlife viewing. Watch the sunrise over one beach and set over the other.
