Enjoy a spectacular view of the San Juan Mountain Range (including Sneffles) from every south-facing room in our one bedroom/one bath modern ranch-style house. An office has been converted to add two single beds.
Two large sheltered patios one with a wrought iron outdoor table and six chairs for enjoying the view, the other has a propane grill.
- Telluride Festivals are at the end of this information.
The house is centrally located for easy access to Last Dollar Road – and approximately halfway between
Ouray/Ridgway and Telluride.
16 mile drive to Ridgway
23 mile drive to Telluride.
40 mile drive to Montrose
26 mile drive to Ouray
...........40 miles to both Montrose Airport and
Telluride airport.
The open living space is 1500 sq. ft. and includes living room, dining room, fully equipped kitchen with lots of spices, and a large dining table in front of a large window that highlights the view. Electric home with in-floor heat, and washer/dryer. There is an electric fan and a heater - if ever needed.
This is a perfect home for couples, retirees, and adventurers. If you are looking to get away from it all, this is a good place for you. You will find dark night skies , bright stars, fresh air, and the quiet sounds of nature. Remember the milky way - it is so beautiful from the patio at night.
Please read the reviews. Many will describe the breathtaking view of this place when you drive into the open meadow from the woods for the first time. The road dead ends in a circular driveway at our home, so it is quiet and isolated. If you look for them, you can see one house beyond the trees to the east and another beyond another group of trees to the southeast. Both of the neighbors have worked to site their homes so that ALL of us have a wonderful view of the mountains and the forests. There is very little traffic and it is a quiet and peaceful experience.
No stairs, so this is a lovely home for someone who needs to use a cane or a walker. I do not believe a wheelchair could get through the bathroom door -- which is the only reason I don't advertise it as a handicapped home.
The 35 acre property is a mixture of Aspen and Ponderosa pine trees, with the house sited on an 5 acre open meadow that allows a wide view of the San Juan mountain range. It is amazing to walk through the trees, or just sit on the patio and enjoy the view.
You can enjoy the fall colors from the patio,
or the beautiful green of the aspen and Ponderosa in the spring and summer. Wild flowers are plentiful at different times of the spring and summer.
It is at a high altitude. Close to 9,000 ft. You will want to drink a lot of water to stay hydrated, and some people recommend taking a couple of aspirin at night.
On a clear night, you will see the Milky Way, and an abundance of stars and satellites from the patio. We have seen falling stars and once saw the Space Shuttle docking with the Space Station.
Just walking around the roads in the immediate area is beautiful, and you can bike, walk, or cross-country ski from the patio of the house. There is access to so many National Forest hiking trails just a short drive away. And a lot of books to help you find jeep & hiking trails, and bird, mushroom and animal identification books.
I believe that most people who have stayed at our home have seen a variety of wildlife including elk, deer, coyotes, chipmunks, wild turkeys, foxes and many beautiful birds will fly into the landscape.
There is NO HUNTING allowed on this property.
It is approximately a 2 mile walk to where the first True Grit movie was filmed. The Famous Last Dollar Ranch is close by, and our house is truly convenient to many of the highlights of Southwest Colorado such as jeeping, hot springs, Mesa Verde (a day trip), and the Black Canyon of the Gunnison to name a few.
Ridgway has just recently been placed on the Certified IDA International Dark Sky Communities list. Only 28 communities in the world are on this list, and both Ridgway and Norwood, CO are on the list. Our house is half way between these two towns -- so, I think that means that people can see more stars than most places in the world from the patio (unless it is cloudy).
