About this property

Large Safari tent adjacent to the beach, following a nature trail to the river

Your panoramic view is nature. See the map! It blends together seamlessly for you.
Your large Safari Tent with screened windows, front & back door, sits on a 900 sq foot wrap around deck and is well furnished for glampers, inside and out. The Glamping Beachcomber's deck is fenced with a gate. The outdoor covered kitchen is self-contained. You'll have the sun rising over the ocean just 300 meters away, and setting late over the trees in our field. This is where the birdThe beach of driftwood covered shores welcomes you for campfire building, swimming with the dog, fort building, or a stroll (you’re a Beachcomber after all) in search for the absolute perfect rock. Bring a craft from your glamping tent, a book, deck of cards, yoga mat, crossword, or sketchbook! If you're up for a walk, choose your path toward Oyster River. You'll be lead along distillery farm fields, forest, meadow, and estuary where you’ll come across several Birders waiting for their perfect image. If your destination is to where the river meets the sea, walk toward the art of a driftwood built bear family at the bend in the trail. Look up to see a large active eagle nest. A little further and you’ll likely see a few anglers in their waders fishing the river and ocean along with the seals, eagles & heron. Closer to home, near the tent you’ll hear the owl couple who are currently raising their owlets. Deer just off your deck in the morning and evening. And you’re likely to catch the resident heron following its regular flight pattern across the field to its nest across the field.
Your glamping appliances are a little propane oven, stove, bbq, fire bowl, and semi-warm shower spray. If a touch of civilization appeals, the essentials are just beyond the nature trail or a very short drive (groceries, liquor store, pizza & specialty coffees and a medical clinic/pharmacy).

There is plenty of space on the deck for your sporting equipment and a camping tent. Extra supplies are available, if 2 more people are joining your reservation.

Within 10 minutes... Our neighbours are The Salmon Point Marina for fishing charters, and the award winning Shelter Point Distillery for tours and tastings. Sandy Saratoga Beach is on the other side of the River, Miracle Beach Provincial Park a little further down. Saratoga Speedway is on Saturday nights 10 minutes away. North 20min to Campbell River & Quadra Island. South 20 min to Courtenay. And a 10 minute drive to the bottom of Mt Washington, popular for hiking, ziplining, biking and competition.

About the host

Host profile image
This land has been in our family for 42 years, and is the traditional territory of Ligwiłda’xw. People, also the We Wai Kai, Wei Wai Kum, and Kwiakah First Nations as the traditional land keepers. Their historical relationships with the land continue to this day, and we’re grateful they allow us to live, work, and play here. My siblings and I have always felt grateful to grow up here. Though I've left various times throughout my life for university, work, family, or to live abroad, this is 'home'. My husband and I are here throughout the summer during the best of times, and enjoy the other seasons in New Westminster, where we are close to our 3 out 4 grown children.

My family cared for many animals here over the years. Now that we're all grown, it's much quieter here, hence more wildlife on the property for you to enjoy. Creating spaces is a passion of mine, and it's been a pleasure making this corner of the land into what it is now, knowing every Glamping Beachcomber will find an attachment to something here.

Why they chose this property

Starting the day gently with song birds and a coffee and Baileys (you're on a break!) at your Adirondak chair is a pretty sweet beginning. Whether hanging out on-deck reading from a diverse book selection, doing yoga, crosswords, cooking, or birdwatching, to trekking to where the river meets the sea, your senses will be calmly stimulated throughout each day. To smell the forest, salt water and fresh water all in one breath doesn't happen many places, but it's here. There's nothing like a meal by beach fire, while your dog fetches and your kids gather shells.

On-to supper time on-deck? Outdoor covered kitchen has your essentials to bbq your catch from the day, even if it's smokies. Waiting for the night to cool down, start up your fire bowl and wait for the deer in your front yard to curiously approach.

And now off to sleep with sounds of crickets lulling you a goodnight.

It's been a day well spent.

What makes this property unique

It's all right here. The beach front restaurant just a 5 min walk is soon to open. This is where you can put away your keys and have a complete holiday. Nature is in your panoramic view. The only thing between you and the beach, river and estuary, is nature itself!
Your Safari Tent sits on a 900 sq’ wrap around deck and is extensively furnished inside and out. You'll catch the sun rising just after it hits the horizon on the sea. And enjoy watching it set over the trees in our field. The Glamping Beachcomber is adjacent to the Salish Sea, and welcomes you to its driftwood covered shores for a campfire, swim, or to find the absolute perfect rock. When on your deck, catch sighting of the resident Blue Heron following its regular flight path to its nest on the other end of the field after a day at the beach and estuary. No doubt you'll hear the Great Horned Owl couple on the other side (who are currently raising their owlets). The deer will be roaming the field early morning and evening. Get your camera! And the song birds will help get you down for the best afternoon nap you've ever had. Along the nature trail above the shoreline you are likely to see an eagle perched on the sandbar where the river meets the sea or flying around their nest near the old-growth. Maybe an angler in waders with a bobbing seal at the mouth of the river waiting to catch their seafood for the day.
You really are in the thick of it! Natures majesty is your bright, well-furnished home for as long as you make it.

A semblance of civilization for tastings and tours at the distillery, or the essentials for groceries, liquor store, specialty coffees and medical clinic, is just beyond the hiking trail, or a very quick drive from your glamping site.
