About this property

Spuraway Cabin Farm Stay

Enjoy everything the country has to offer at Spuraway Cabin, situated on our family’s small farm in Forest Grove, BC.

Our 2-bedroom Cabin is newly updated, with a fully stocked kitchen, dining room, living room, full bathroom, and a wrap around porch, complete with a BBQ.

We love to make our guests feel at home, so we’ve included some kitchen extras during your stay:
•Coffee, tea, sugar, cream
•Farm fresh eggs
•Salt + Pepper
•Olive oil + Balsamic Vinegar

The bedrooms are located on the second floor of the cabin. There is a queen sized bed in the master bedroom, and twin bunk beds (perfect for the kids!) in the second bedroom. Both bedrooms have a view of canim valley.

All bed linens are 100% cotton, and washed in natural + fragrance free detergent. We also include warm down duvets, with a fresh duvet cover every time.

Note for 2-person bookings: In order to help us reduce our water and energy consumption, we will have the Queen Bed made up for bookings with only 2 guests. Please let us know at the time of booking if your 2-person reservation will need bedding for the bunk as well. Thank you!!

**please note: stairs going to the bedrooms are steep! If you have mobility issues, this may not be the right vacation rental for you.**

Whether you are in the Cariboo to get out and explore, or looking for a cute + cozy place to stay, we’ve got you covered!

Spuraway Cabin
My friend and I really enjoyed the spacious cabin! It was cute, cozy and aesthetic! Plus, the host’s dog, Hiro, came to say hi everyday! Would highly recommend the place if you’re looking to get away from the city!

great!
Very cute cabin, clean and perfect for what i needed. Could use some blinds in the bedroom for those who aren’t a morning person like myself, but it isn’t super important. Overall had a fantastic stay!

Nice cabin, friendly hosts, great for family with younger kids.
Nice cabin, host goes the extra mile with fresh eggs and cream, responsive and friendly. It’s clean and has all the supplies you need in kitchen(dishes, pots, cutlery etc). Listing doesn’t note that there are no doors for bedrooms - therefore no privacy. Window coverings would be nice - sun came up around 5am.family dog Hiro is super sweet and friendly.

A little misleading…
Hiro the big white dog was the best part of our stay. I wouldn’t recommend this property for seniors or folks with mobility issues. The heating is less than effective… we were “allowed” to use one of the three thermostats in the cabin which powered one electric baseboard by the front door. The problem is that the front door is not sealed, in fact it doesn’t close properly, and all of the heat leaks out. The temperature was hovering around zero/-1 during our stay, and got up to maybe 10 degrees in the cabin with the heat cranked. The property details state the during the winter months, the wood powered heat would be activated… when I inquired about this, because we were freezing, the owner stated that the wood heat is only activated if the temperature hits -10 or below! The bedroom upstairs was freezing throughout our stay and at one point we contemplated bringing the mattress downstairs where it was slightly warmer, but that would have been disastrous. The stairs leading up to the bedroom are very steep and uneven. Coming down the steps can be tricky, but watch your head, because you will smack it off the ceiling going down if you’re any taller than 5’8”. The stairs weren’t the big issue for us because we are able bodied. In summary: for the price we paid per night, it was a little offensive that a few logs couldn’t be sacrificed to make a guest’s stay a little more enjoyable…would not recommend renting in the cooler months or if you are tall or have mobility issues.

About the host

I was born & raised in the restaurant industry in Vancouver, BC. I'm a major foodie & wine nerd, who's been plucked out of the city, and brought to the country to live. Together with my husband Warren, and our two sons, we run a small hobby farm. We love eating healthy, so we grow tons of our own food, and keep busy preserving the summer harvest. We are super outgoing, love travelling, and we thought VRBO would be a great way to meet new people. Come stay with us!

Why they chose this property

About the area:
We are approximately 20mins from town (100 Mile House). I suggest getting groceries, or anything else you'll need from town, before coming into Forest Grove, as its usually cheaper in town.

However, if you forgot something on your list, the village of Forest Grove is about a 2min drive from our place. Within our community, you will find:

-a General Store (with most necessities, including alcohol)
-a Hardware Store
-a Legion (take out open Weds, Fri, + Sat for non-members)
-The Dandelion Cafe, open weekends
-Butcher Bob's (literally across the street from us. But heads up, everything is frozen, so buy early if you plan on cooking that evening. Cash only, closed Sundays + Holidays.)
-Farmers Market in the Legion parking lot every Saturday during summer months…Last market is Labour Day Weekend.
-Canada Post Office

Recreation:
The Cariboo is amazing for outdoor adventures, any time of the year. Some of the activities around are Snowmobiling, Skiing (Mt. Timothy), Snowshoeing, Ice Skating on the Lakes, Fishing + Ice Fishing, Hunting, Horseback Riding, Quadding, Boating, Foraging, Hiking, Camping, etc etc etc.

The 2 closest lakes to our place are Ruth Lake + Canim Lake. Both are approx. a 15 min drive, but in different directions. There is often no cell service around the lakes.

What makes this property unique

Please take your time driving on Canim-Hendrix road, especially in the evening or early mornings. You will often see wildlife in the warmer months. The road can be frosty/snowy/slippery from fall to spring.

A 4x4 vehicle is required for our driveway from Thanksgiving-Easter (ish). We get a lot of snow, in the fall/winter months, + mud in the spring. Our driveway is dirt + gravel.

A few things included in your stay:
-Coffee, Tea, Sugar, + Cream
-Fresh Eggs from our small flock of hens
-Olive Oil + Balsamic Vinegar
-Salt + Pepper

Connectivity:
There is cell service at the cabin. In order to connect to the tv with a laptop, I have included an HDMI cable located in the drawer of the tv table. You should receive the information to wifi access a few days before the reservation is scheduled.

Water:
Please limit your water consumption during the summer + early fall, as we are on a shallow well. Our water is potable and goes through an extensive filtration system. Please do not flush anything down the toilet except toilet paper.

Bug Season:
Generally from June to mid August. Bug spray is recommended! Please keep the doors to the cabin shut to help keep the bugs outdoors. We have screens on all the windows.
