About this property

Lakeside Log Cabin: Breathtaking Natural Beauty Pocomoonshine Lake Bass fishing

Rejuvenate at The Whippoorwill, a private, unspoiled, spacious, beautiful log cottage 30' from lakeshore. Your own 'On Golden Pond' experience on a 2,500 acre pristine lake. Relax where nature's beauty is at its best and reminds many of Alaska but closer. This is one of the best small mouth bass, white perch lakes in the state of Maine! Kayak into the morning mist, enjoy coffee on the Mstr Bdrm deck, canoe, fish all day, sail, swim, read, or motor to the mountain. Do a fun paddle to islands, coves or down the Pocomoonshine/Crawford Lake river trip as part of the Little Maine River/Machias ecosystem. Savor your great wine/Stella on the dock, shore, or large screened porch while watching magnificent sunsets across open skies. Waves lap the shore and loons call. Fly fishing and spin casting, are fantastic. Bring cameras to photograph deer, loons, bald eagles, beaver, heron, otter, & maybe moose!
The ocean is 40 minute drive; explore easy day trips to Maine's bold majestic coast or Canada for great golf and historic sites. Perfect for couples, friends, families, reflection, naturalists, artists, fishermen, hunters.
Description: Unhurried and gloriously unspoiled on a minimally developed special lake where your 17 ' Grumman canoe is provided! Kayaks, paddle board, fishing boat are available. Your own cabin dock has ample room for your fishing boats .

This fishing "camp" is wonderfully rural. There is no concierge service, it is best for those who favor an appreciation of nature, outdoor beauty and are fairly self sufficient. There is basic internet as well as your cell hot spot. I am always available for any communication by phone, text or email. Bring drinking water for coffee, lake water is used for showers. Of course, please feel free to call with any questions.

Beautiful and Private
While Pocomoonshine Lake is not technically a private lake, it might as well be. There are very few houses on the lake itself and the scenery is breathtaking. Upon arrival, my kids were anxious to get out on the water with the kayaks and canoe, and in no time were catching fish. After getting the boat that we requested in the water, it was all we could do to keep them from asking to go out on the boat. Relaxing in this cabin was very easy after we all got settled. My wife and I found ourselves drinking coffee every morning on the porch watching the loons and enjoying the view. While there is not much in the immediate area, it does not take long to get to stores that have anything that you may need. We were hoping to make more trips to the coast, but that did not happen. As far as cellular service goes, we had no issues. This was definitely worth the 14 hour drive and we would love to stay here again! Thank you Toni for everything!

Good stay overall, but not one of our favorites.
Overall we enjoyed our stay here. Quiet, serene, peaceful. Enjoyed many a lovely happy hour on the open deck with the heavenly view of the pretty lake. You are literally 12 steps to the dock/lake from screen porch. Most of the rooms, including the bedroom, looks directly onto the lake with a sweeping gorgeous view of the large lake. Loved the sight and sound of the many Loons and Eagles. Cabin comes with boats to use at a premium rental price...we opted out. Master bedroom is huge and features a very comfy, beautifully crafted cedar log bed, though surprised not king size with all the extra space in the room. Only needed the bedroom fan most of the 4 weeks, but with the record heat wave that came through on the last night (temps into low 90s), took advantage of room A/C available (had to install ourselves). Used only for a couple of hours during the heat of the afternoon, not needed at night. Things I need to mention for future renters however. Did not realize the water supply to the house is untreated lake drawn, with only a simple sediment filter (that needed to be replaced). Housekeeper left us one gallon of bottled water, but with use for drinking, coffee, tea, beverages, cooking...we were going through one gallon a day per person. Buy and bring gallons before you arrive, you will need it. A bit of clutter in the house with too much stuff, but livable. Could not use master bedroom closet due to strong mothball smell, used guest closet as alternative. Kitchen was a strange hodgepodge of mismatched dishes, pot/pans, cups and utensils...but after some good cleaning and organizing...we made it work. DO realize you are in a woods cabin in the wilderness. You are disconnected from the world. Owner has dish set up for internet and TV with equipment, but has it disconnected. You will need international plan on your cell, since close by Canadian towers will pick up your signal, which is still week. Most times I had to walk outside to get enough signal. There is a TV for playing DVDS only, but the DVD player does not work well, has glitches when playing it. No radio here either, except old one that can't pick anything up. Do not expect spotlessly clean conditions here, though important things were clean enough. Cabin is old and showing it's age in many ways. Otherwise, this is a peaceful retreat from the world.

Love the peaceful lake!
We enjoyed the quiet, relaxing atmosphere. We caught lots of fish and loved seeing the beavers swimming, especially the one right by the dock! The loons and eagles were beautiful The weather was perfect, little bit of rain in the evening and hot during the day. The lake did not have many people on it and we like it that way. Perfect quiet, laid back get away!

Perfect cottage. Great fishing!!
My husband and I loved it. The cottage is perfect. We fished every day and caught a bunch, small mouth bass, white perch, (right off the pier) blue gill and large mouth bass and even an eel. We loved seeing the loons, bald eagles and turtles. Very quiet and peaceful. Short drive to get fresh seafood. We loved it. Thank you for sharing your cottage with us. We feel blessed to be able to experience it.

This log cabin was built by my parents and has been our summer home since 1960. We lived on Long Island during the year and summered in this cabin for many years. This area and especially this lake, provide peace and enjoyment of the earth's natural beauty. Although I now live in Raleigh, NC there have been many family and friend romantic get -aways, lobster feeds, relaxing times with friends, entire days of fishing, engagements, honeymoons, friends stopping in on the way to Canada or Maine’s oceans and staying to enjoy nature from the porch and lake. We have many stories about the large hand built field stone fireplace, the cabin's history and fun lake excursion stories at The Whippoorwill. Personally, I enjoy talks and dinners on the screened in porch and decks, paddle boarding, spin and fly fishing, watching sunsets, great fishing, kayaking to the islands, and using it as a base for hiking and sightseeing. We have now enjoyed sharing the cabin, with many wonderful guests.
