About this property

The Bluewood Cape Breton | Cape Cod Style Renovated Century Home

Welcome to The Bluewood.
Located just outside Cheticamp this 4 bedroom, 1.5 bath cottage sleeps between 6-8 and is close to multiple attractions including Fresh Seafood Restaurants, Whale Watching. Backcountry Jeep Tours and Cape Breton Highlands National Park.

We say the cottage sleeps 6 to 8 people. The main bedroom, Cape Queen and Second Bedroom, Breton Blue both feature queen sized beds. Cape Crabby, the third bedroom features a double bed. Lastly the fourth bedroom, known as the Breton Bunk has a 3/4 bed which can sleep two children or one teen/adult.

From Cape Crabby and Breton Blue you can hear the babbling brook at night which will help lull you to sleep, a favourite feature of the host.

The main floor features open concept living and dining as well as a fully stocked, recently renovated Cape Cod style kitchen. The kitchen is on the smaller side so you will also find a combination laundry room/butlers pantry adjacent to the kitchen for larger crowds. We make morning coffee in here, and keep our extra snacks and supplies in here to free up room for cooking all that fresh seafood.

The property features a babbling brook and there is a large front porch with dining table for enjoying that freshly cooked seafood. We have a grill, fire pit and an outdoor projector with screen for summer movie nights. The sun sets directly infant of the front porch and can be seen through both the living room window and the window in Cape Queen.

A Family Season Park Pass is included at the property for you to explore Cape Breton Highlands National Park Courtesy of The Bluewood. We also include many fun interactive features like bucket lists and trivia throughout the property to help make the most of your time with us. All week long stays receive a complimentary bottle of wine from the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia, known for its unique wines.

Things to Note : The property is a century home and does not have air conditioning or a dishwasher at this time. We do provide fans to help cool bedrooms at night.

PHOTO DISCLAIMER : Some photos are from the prior owners. We will be adding more detailed photos as we get each space ready. Check back for updates!

About the host

Host profile image
After years of being raised in Ontario I followed my roots back to Nova Scotia in hopes of sharing the magic this place holds with everyone else.

I'm a travelling homebody and my sidekick is my dog which is why our property is pet friendly, we know they are apart of the family too. If I am not at home you can probably find me on a trail, doing yoga at the beach or cooking up something for my loved ones.

Hosting has become a way to reconnect with people in such a disconnected world, for me this is more than a rental but a way to help families create new memories together that can be remembered for years to come.

Why they chose this property

Cape Breton speaks for itself. The rolling hills, rugged coastlines, lush Greenlands and fishbouats bobbing in the waves will win over the heart of anyone who steps foot on the island.

Cheticamp is special because it is the quintessential Nova Scotia experience being a small fishing village with bustling wharfs and colourful buildings. We love the slow pace, the friendly people and of course the seafood caught right off our shores.

Being located close to the entrance for Cape Breton Highlands Park is also one of our favourite features - being able to explore all the beauty nature has to offer. The property is located just 20 minutes from one of the most iconic hikes on the island, the Skyline Trail.

What makes this property unique

We strive to not only offer a property to rent but an experience by having an interactive property. We provide curated guides in both digital and paper format. Upon booking confirmation you receive route recommendations for the best views, planning resources for jeep tours, whale watching and other attractions in the area. Our hope is to help you plan ahead so you don't miss anything our area has to offer.

Guests also receive a road trip playlist for their travels to the property as well as curated playlists at the property you can access with our smart speaker or from your own device and always have music playing upon arrival.

We have interactive maritime trivia created by The Bluewood for a fun family game night, an outdoor movie projector and mini market on site that allows you to order online and purchase items directly in the unit such as coffee, wine, soaps, beeswax wraps and more.
