About this property
Haven on High - converted church in central Tasmania
Haven on High combines historic charm with modern comforts, perfect for guests who want to immerse themselves in a rejuvenating space that is wholly and authentically Tasmanian. The 145-year-old heritage-listed church contains many striking architectural features including intricate stained-glass windows, a high vaulted ceiling, and beautifully restored hardwood floors.
Haven accommodates 5 guests. The mezzanine bedroom is the perfect spot to take in the full volume of the church and view the shifting colours of the stained glass as the sun sets each evening. The mezzanine contains two sleeping spaces, one with a sumptuous queen bed and under-floor heating, the other with a cosy single bed. The vestibule on the ground floor is set up with bunk beds, offering a private sleeping space for two.
Staying at Haven is a restful experience, and we’ve curated a range of relaxing activities to help you lean into the rejuvenating qualities of the space. History buffs can peruse our collection of books about Tasmania and Australia. Social butterflies can visit suggested points of interest and eateries across the Northern Midlands or unpack one of 70+ board games from the book nook. And of course, getting comfy by the fire is a must; choose between a movie by the indoor fireplace, or toasted marshmallows and a view of the stars and Aurora Australis (southern lights) from the outdoor fire pit.
Tucked underneath the mezzanine bedroom is a full bathroom with heated towel racks, a chic half bath, and a spacious, fully-equipped kitchen complete with Nespresso machine and everything you need to prepare home-cooked meals.
Fresh linens and towels are provided as well as a large-capacity washing machine and dryer. We provide all the basic supplies to get your stay underway, including shampoo and soaps, tea and coffee, cooking essentials, medical supplies, ‘in case you forgot’ toiletries, and a generous supply of wood, kindling and firelighters.
Located in the centre of Tasmania, Haven on High is an easy drive to statewide tourist destinations and serves as the perfect hub for day trips in any direction. We are located next to the Campbell Town IGA, BWS, and pharmacy and within a 5-minute walk of all shops, eateries, parks, and historic landmarks in town. We highly recommend popping across the street to visit The Book Cellar (award winning bookshop), The Tasmania Shop (quality local foods, wines and handcrafted items), and Sweet Brew (our favourite coffee in Tassie).

About the host
Hosted by Matt
I am a travel enthusiast and adventure-seeker based in both Tasmania and Melbourne, Australia. I visit at least one new country each year, relishing the learning and experience gained from getting out of my comfort zone.
I also love spending time in unique architectural spaces, which led to becoming the proud owner of Haven on High, a heritage-listed converted church. It's a joy to share its story with our guests, who come from all over the world.

Why they chose this property
Tasmania is full of amazing nature, tasty locally-grown food, and kind people. Campbell Town offers a central hub from which to explore the whole state, and the relaxed pace of the country town helps me reset and unwind after stints in Melbourne.
What makes this property unique
Built in 1879, paid for by an ex-convict, used for 90 years as a place of worship with additional former lives as a wool museum, art gallery, and coffee shop... properties don't get much more special than this.
