About this property

The Church at Haven on High

Haven on High combines charming heritage features with modern comforts, perfect for guests who who want to immerse themselves in a piece of Tasmanian history. The 145-year-old heritage-listed building features striking architectural characteristics including intricate stained-glass windows, a high vaulted ceiling, beautifully restored hardwood floors, commemorative plaques, and decorative moulding.

The thoughtfully converted church is particularly well-suited for couples and small families.

The Church at Haven on High sleeps up to 5 guests.

From the primary bedroom on the mezzanine level, you have the perfect vantage point to take in the full volume of the church and watch the stained glass windows project colours throughout the home as the sun sets each evening. The mezzanine level has two sleeping areas separated by a dividing wall - one with a queen bed, the other with a single bed. The vestibule on the ground floor contains bunk beds set up like a 'pod hotel', offering a private sleeping space for two.

Tucked underneath the mezzanine is a full bathroom, a powder room, and a spacious kitchen equipped with everything you need to prepare home-cooked meals - plus a Nespresso machine to start the day off right.

Staying at Haven on High is a restful experience, and we’ve prepared relaxing activities to help you lean into the rejuvenating qualities of the space. We invite you to peruse our collection of books about Tasmania, put on a record, pull out a yoga mat, unpack one of 50+ board games and puzzles, or re-watch your favourite film. And of course, getting cosy by the fire is a must.

Located in the centre of Tasmania, Haven on High is an easy drive to statewide tourist destinations and serves as a fantastic hub for day trips in any direction. We are conveniently located next to the grocery store and within a 5-minute walk of all shops, eateries, parks, and historic landmarks in town.

We can't wait to host you! Once you've booked we will share recommended shops, restaurants, activities and travel tips to help you make the most of your stay.

Lovely building but some challenges
The building was amazing and the bathroom, cleanliness and inclusions were great. This would be a perfect place for a romantic getaway for 2. The problem we had was with the second bedroom (very small foyer space) that housed our boys. It was tiny, got quite hot and was right next to the highway with no insulation or sound blockages. Also, be aware, the stained glass windows are amazing, but do not have curtains so be prepared for beautiful light from dawn.

Awesome Stay
We loved everything about The Haven, Matt was brilliant to liase with, we booked the church and the cottage for four adults, so we could all have our own sleeping space and own bathrooms but we grouped together over a few wines and pate and cheese in front of the open fire in the church leoacious living area. Lived the heated blankets. Heavenly is how to describe our experience. Both property’s have everything you possibly need. Thanks guys

About the host

Hosted by Matt

Host profile image
I am a travel enthusiast, sports fanatic, and bookworm based in Tasmania and Melbourne, Australia.

I also love unique architecture, and this passion led to becoming the proud owner of a heritage-listed church and adjoining country cottage. Sharing these spaces with guests brings me great joy.

Why they chose this property

Tasmania is full of amazing nature, tasty locally-grown food, and kind people. Campbell Town offers a central hub from which to explore the whole state, and the relaxed pace of the country town helps me unwind.

What makes this property unique

Built in 1879, paid for by an ex-convict, used for 90 years as a place of worship with additional former lives as a wool museum, art gallery, and coffee shop... properties don't get much more special than this.
