South Hobart is considered a bit of a foodie hub, there are so many great little cafes and specialty shops to enjoy. If you’re looking for an early morning coffee or breakfast Ginger Browns is the place. Others to note are: Bear with Me or local pub grub The Cascade Hotel.
"From 1828 to 1856, the Cascades Female Factory operated as a purpose-built institution intended to reform female convicts. More than 5,000 women convicts are known to have spent time here.
The Cascade Brewery, the oldest brewery in Australia, is located here.
Another landmark is All Saints' Anglican Church. Established in 1858, it is heritage listed. The building was designed by the prominent architect Henry Hunter. The Church is renowned for containing a memorial plaque for school teacher and founder of women's cricket in Australia, Lily Poulett-Harris.
Stroll along The Hobart Rivulet, one of the few rivulets to have been the given care and attention it deserves, no doubt because of its significat role in the establishment and development of Hobart. The rivulet was an important source of drinking water for the Mouheneener Aborigines, and later for the first European settlers.
Getting around South Hobart is easy - there is a good stream of public transport, e-scooters or Uber. If you have a car, there is plenty of safe parking on the streets. Walking from the location into and around the area is recommended to take in the history, cafes and specialty shops.
