Designed with harmony in mind, the Hive’s open-plan layout welcomes you with its blend of polished concrete, hand-crafted wooden features, and abundant natural light that dances across its eight-sided form. Four cozy sleeping alcoves offer space for up to six guests:

A queen bed swathed in bamboo linens
A double bed with organic cotton linens
Two single beds, perfect for restful slumber beneath the mezzanine’s treehouse-inspired embrace.
Let us know if you’d prefer all separate beds made up for your group’s needs.

At the heart of the Hive, a central fireplace radiates warmth during cooler months, drawing friends and family together into its inviting glow. Here, stories are shared, moments unfold, and the simple joys of being present come alive.

Outside, nature weaves its magic. Stroll through the 35-meter lavender maze, wander private forest trails, or savor a cup of tea as birds serenade you from the treetops. The Hive’s charm extends to its surroundings, where our resident animal companions—horses, bobby calves, and friendly dogs—add to the sense of belonging.

For those who cherish creativity, connection, and simplicity, the Hive provides art supplies, lawn games, and board games to inspire slow, mindful moments. A fully equipped kitchen awaits for shared meals, with a coffee plunger and AeroPress for savoring your mornings. While there’s no microwave or wifi (aligned with our sustainability ethos), Telstra reception allows you to stay connected if needed.

About the host

Host profile image
We are Lena, originally from Germany, and Ands, hailing from Australia’s mid-east coast, united by a shared passion for living in harmony with nature and inspiring others to reconnect with their inner and outer worlds. To us, nature is the ultimate healer, truth-teller, and teacher—a sanctuary of wisdom and transformation.

We take immense joy in creating aesthetic and sacred spaces that invite nature in, blending simplicity and sustainability with touches of luxury. Our lives are rooted in permaculture principles, Ayurvedic holistic healing, and creative living, which have inspired the founding of Shambala Nature Retreat.

Hosting guests in this little slice of forest paradise is a true honor for us. It’s our way of offering a space where you can unwind, rejuvenate, and reconnect with the magic of life. Whether it’s through the stillness of the forest, the serenity of mindful practices, or simply the beauty of being present, we hope your time here nourishes you deeply.

Why they chose this property

The land didn’t just choose us; it felt as if we were called to it. After nearly 15 years living in the Southwest, we were drawn from the coastline to the forest, yearning for deeper roots in fertile soil. Our love for the native southwest forests—rich in biodiversity, peace, and timeless beauty—brought us here to a sanctuary of 118 pristine acres, surrounded by state forest and teeming with wildlife.

This area is alive with magic. Mornings begin with a symphony of birdsong, the trill of wrens and the calls of kookaburras resonating through the trees. Evenings are a serenade of magpies under a blanket of starlit skies so clear and unpolluted, it feels as though the cosmos is within arm’s reach.

Golden light filters through eucalyptus trees in the afternoons, casting a radiant glow over the paddocks and the forest’s edge. The air is tinged with the earthy scent of red dirt and native flora, while meandering trails invite exploration through woodlands and fields, revealing delicate wildflowers and glimpses of kangaroos or black cockatoos.

Despite the serene seclusion, the area is a gateway to the treasures of the Southwest—renowned wineries, iconic coastline, and vibrant local culture are all within easy reach. Here, the forest holds space for reflection, grounding, and rejuvenation, offering its magic with every season: from the wildflower blooms of spring to the crisp, still mornings of winter.

It’s this harmony of wilderness and accessibility, of solitude and connection, that makes this area so profoundly special. It’s a place to breathe deeply, live fully, and rediscover the wonder of life.

What makes this property unique

Nestled deep within the embrace of a serene southwest forest, the Woodland Hive at Shambala Nature Retreat is more than a space—it’s a living entity, a sanctuary for the soul. She stands as a timeless bridge, weaving together the modern and the vintage, the eastern and the western, embodying harmony, simplicity, and sustainable luxury.
Born from the land she rests upon, her structure carries the essence of native timbers milled decades ago, her walls shaped with solar-passive principles that honor the rhythms of nature. With an octagonal design inspired by sacred geometry and Steiner’s eight spheres, she invites flow, connection, and a sense of belonging.
Inside, the Hive is open and inviting. Natural light streams through expansive windows, highlighting polished concrete floors and hand-crafted wooden accents. Her heart, a central fireplace, radiates warmth in winter, gathering those within her walls into circles of connection and shared stories. Above, a treehouse-like mezzanine holds cozy alcoves for slumber, each an intimate retreat for dreamers, accommodating up to six guests across one queen, one double, and two single beds.
Beyond her walls, the forest calls. Wander private trails, lose yourself in the lavender maze, or sit quietly, tea in hand, as birdsong fills the air. The Hive’s values come alive in every detail: mindfulness, eco-centric embodiment, and a reverence for the natural world. Guests are invited to reconnect with themselves and others through yoga under the open sky, forest meditations, artful creativity, or simply the presence of nature’s gifts.
The Hive is a place of return—where modern travelers, like bees to their colony, come to rest, share their nectar of experiences, and transform together into something golden. She offers not just a stay but an invitation to awaken, to find balance, and to remember the beauty of living close to the Earth.
Here, simplicity meets soul, and every moment hums with the quiet magic of connection.
