Great location, poorly equipped home
King William Terrace is a handsome Georgian terrace house, perfectly located in Fitzroy, a very short walk from Carlton Gardens, the Melbourne Museum and Fitzroy and Collingwood’s cafes. It is easy to access by city tram and is in a lovely area with characterful houses and cobbled laneways. Inside the house, there are two living areas, a dining room and kitchen, three bedrooms and one bathroom.
That’s the good part.
Despite its qualities, the property is not well serviced and maintained by its hosts. We were staying in mid winter. The bed linen was poor in quality and there was a meagre array of small heaters that were unsuitable for warming anything other than the bedrooms. Living spaces were constantly freezing, made worse by the fact that several power points did not work so you could not bring the small heaters close to the sitting areas. The back portion of the house where the bathroom is located (via a bizarre ramp) Is uninsulated and the wall heating was, again, not working.
Other than freezing throughout our stay, we arrived to find that the wifi was not working as described. When I contacted the hosts, they sent me on a wild goose chase to find and reset the router - whoever acts as the hosts seems entirely unfamiliar with the property. After a couple of nights I stumbled upon the router in a totally different spot to the one described, in a different part of the house, and was finally able to access the internet.
In all, not a stay we would wish to repeat!
