About this property
Roller Mills Apartment
Step inside the historic Crown Mill building, once a steam driven flour mill and experience central CBD apartment living at it's best. Offering large, comfortable and luxurious spaces and decor, you will be well catered to for your stay in Dunedin. Whether you're visiting for leisure or business, our beautifully appointed residence ensures an unforgettable stay with unparalleled access to the city's most famous landmarks.
Starting life as a three-stories-high building in 1867, the Crown Roller Mills was purpose-built (using pressed bricks and Oamaru stone) to house Anderson and Mouat's steam-driven flour mill. This is believed to be the first Dunedin city building to incorporate the creamy-coloured Oamaru stone.
In 1878 the mill was extended and later in 1890 the fifth floor was added while the millstones were replaced with steel rollers.
1897 saw the first of many further changes in ownership, until Goodman Fielder - who owned the mill in 1997 - moved the last production away to Timaru and Christchurch.
The building has since been converted into luxury apartments and a restaurant, and carries a Heritage NZ Cat.1 listing No.366.
