This is a cave hotel. Our room was on the top floor inside a cave. The view from our room faced the old town of Matera. It was spectacular. Breakfast offered a great variety of food, coffee made for you, fresh! The staff was so friendly. High recommended. Please note, if you are driving into Matera, you will need to park in a nearby garage, and catch the shuttle to this hotel. This area is steep and roads uneven, therefore you need good walking shoes.

Unique hotel

Our stay was lovely. Our room was at the very top of the complex (about 75 steps up) so we struggled with a bags. The lady who ran the place actually carried mine which was nice but i wish there was a note in the room description as i avoid these rooms. The view was snagging though. Also, our room was not serviced during our 2 day stay which was also disappointing. I found this unusual for the style and other service at the property.

Fabulous Fra i Sassi

Absolutely amazing location. Room was fabulous, bathroom was huge and luxurious. Walked straight out door to wander the streets and all the main sites. Also fabulous was their decking area which had lounges and tables and chairs and every night we sat and relaxed and had drinks delivered to us from their bar area whilst we admired the amazing views. Also as limited parking there was an excellent drop off area for luggage which was very well organised by the hotel with our car rego number. Beautiful restaurants located within minutes walk. Cannot fault and cannot wait to go back for a visit.

Wonderful small hotel in a wonderful place.

A beautiful little place, lovely spacious room, marvelous views of the ancient city and friendly, helpful staff. Good breakfast. Everything was very clean and well presented. Very comfy bed and plenty of room for clothes in the wardrobe area. Excellent terrace with comfortable seating. The many stairs up to the hotel could be a problem for some people. A quiet, attractive area and an easy walk to good restaurants. I really enjoyed my stay.

Perfect Hotel to stay in.

I spent three nights in Matera. This hotel lived up to all my expectations. The views from my bedroom window were magnificent. Just stunning looking out over the old town. The hotel is very close to surrounding restaurants. My room was spacious and very clean and a lovely comfortable bed to sleep on. The owner and staff could not have been more helpful. I had a few problems with the wifi in my room and was offered the use of the hotel's computer if necessary. The only disappointment was on the second day unfortunately my room was not serviced. A little slip up, but I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Matera. You will not be disappointed.

Excelência no acolhimento!

Amamos ficar no Fra i Sassi. Tivemos acolhimento excepcional, recebendo todas as orientações necessárias. Ao chegarmos fomos direcionados a um apartamento confortabilíssimo, enorme, mas que ficava após uma série de escadas. Como chovia e este trajeto é externo, solicitei troca de apartamento. Soube que nosso quarto era o de maior categoria , mas não nos importávamos de estar em apartamento de categoria inferior pelo mesmo custo. Direcionaram-nos a apartamento no térreo, menor, mas tão excepcional quanto o primeiro, o que nos deixou deveras felizes. Die Fra I Sassi Residence könnte die perfekte Unterkunft in Matera sein. Man kann kultig in einem bequem eingerichteten Sassi übernachten, es gibt ein opulentes italienisches Frühstücksbuffet und am Abend genießt man mit einem Glas Wein den unbezahlbaren Blick auf den Domberg und die tolle Altstadt. Die Lage ist einfach ideal, um Matera zu Fuß zu erkunden und es gibt eine Menge tolle Restaurants in nächster Nähe. Das Personal ist freundlich und hilfsbereit. Eigentlich würden wir dem Hotel sogar mehr als 5 Sterne geben, wenn unser Zimmer nicht in einem so schäbigen Zustand gewesen wäre. Dass der Putz in unserem Sassi stellenweise von der Wand kam, das Zimmer eines gründlichen Anstrichs bedurfte hätte und die Möbel nicht mehr ganz neu waren - geschenkt. Was für uns wirklich eklig war, war die dicke Schicht Schimmel, die wir an unserem zweiten Abend in der Dusche entdeckten mussten. Das darf bei einem Hotel dieser Preisklasse einfach nicht sein und gibt 2 Sterne abzug! Etwas gestört haben wir uns außerdem an dem vom Hotel empfohlenen Parkhaus. Da das Hotel mitten in der ZTL liegt, ist eine Anfahrt mit dem PKW auch zum Abladen des Gepäcks nicht möglich. Mit dem Transfer-Service der Garage klingt es nach einem Sonderangebot für Hotelgäste, es war aber unter dem Strich günstiger in einem anderen Parcheggio zu parken und ein Taxi zu nehmen.
