About this property

Lakewood Lodge on Beautiful Bass Lake 6 adults 2 children

Lakewood Lodge is a charming waterfront log home on beautiful Bass Lake in Michigan's Grand Traverse region. A very unique 1.5 acre lot with towering trees is hemmed with a 50’ private beach front on an all-sports lake. It truly is a special place for making memories with friends and family.

The full log home provides a spacious ‘up north’ ambiance with cathedral ceilings and two levels of living. An open great room with a loft, kitchen, dining and bar area are centered around an impressive natural stone fireplace. The oversized patio with access to a grill provides two dining areas, with peaceful views of the woodland landscape, wildlife, and the lake. A large fire pit in the center of the property is the favorite spot for evening storytelling and roasting marshmallows. No parties allowed.

Bass Lake is a spring fed, all-sports lake with over 100 acres. Its smaller size provides hard-to-find experience when compared to the larger and busier lakes in the area. It is great for any kind of water sport and activity, as well as an excellent fishing spot for bass, perch, pike and bluegill. Much of the lake shoreline is dedicated to a state park, with public boat access, which makes it a sanctuary and great observatory of wildlife. An older fishing boat, two kayaks and a new L-shaped composite dock are part of the amenities.

Our location offers the best of both worlds! The quiet of the nature while many popular tourist destinations are within short driving distance: Boutique shopping and artisanal dining in Traverse City, and in quaint towns along the Leelanau Peninsula • Interlochen Village and the Center for the Arts/Music Camp • The spectacular hiking area of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore • Crystal Mountain Resort for dining, spa, hiking and golf and skiing in the winter

In close proximity of Lakewood Lodge you will find: Small market in the village of Karlin (DNR licenses available there) • Tom's Market • Karlin Inn, Oakeys Tavern, Hofbrau Steak House, and Bud’s with miniature golf are the nearest casual restaurants • Canoe/kayak/ paddle board rentals at Canoe the Platte or Betsie River • Incredible Mo's for bowling and arcade • Interlochen 18-hole Golf Course.

For local activities please check out the world-famous Interlochen Center for the Arts, Traverse City National Cherry Festival, Traverse City Film Festival, Leland Wine & Food Festival, wine tasting at local wineries such as Black Star Farms, Chateau Grand Traverse and Leelanau Wine Cellars, and local farms for fresh fruit picking.

Vacation at any season! Fall colors are gorgeous and the wine tours are a great way to celebrate the harvest. Winter offers amazing ski opportunities in the nearby popular ski resort Crystal Mountain Resort, only 20 minutes away.

3 generation family getaway

We chose this property for its rustic charm and secluded location, and it delivered! The cabin was very clean very comfortable for 6 people. Only drawback to the bedrooms was one is a loft with no privacy This was our first trip to Michigan and my 86 year old father was looking forward to fishing in the row boat on the lake, however the oars on the boat were improperly sized making rowing extremely difficult and engine doesn’t work so fishing didn’t happen. Because of the severe lack of winter snow the lake is very low and it was just muddy silty muck. It’s also much smaller than we anticipated and should have researched that better before picking this location. We wanted to rent a pontoon boat for the week but because the lake was so shallow we could not Despite this, we had a wonderful time and did day trips all over the area exploring the beautiful coastline and other lakes

Rustic Lakefront Cabin

Comfortable log cabin on the banks of smaller, natural lake. Saw plenty of wildlife, as quiet as nature gets and very little traffic. Cabin included plenty of lawn and lake amenities and the kitchen was stocked with plenty of essentials to make living easy.

FAMILY VACATION 2024

This house was so perfect for our family vacation, lots of room and privacy outside!! Loved the private beach-water was not very clear so we didn’t swim-but we were fine with sitting on the beach!! We did kayak and did some fishing and cruised in the small boat around the lake. Only complaint was upstairs bathroom shower did not drain very well-but overall everything was great!! Thanks for sharing your beautiful space with me and my family!

EXCELLENT

Nothing more needs said, this place is excellent. The fire pit was well used during our stay as well as the gas grill (which the burners need replaced bad). We used the other amenities onsite as well, kayaks and the row boat. Didn't catch any fish though. The beds are super comfortable and plenty of towels provided. The place is quiet and private for the most part. We'd definitely stay here again.

Labor Day stay

There are positives and negatives about this property. Would I stay here again? No. The cabin is nice, clean, cute, lots of beds and rooms. The loft is a very nice touch. The yard is nice. The host is friendly and responsive. The downside is the cabin gets very hot, it was 84 out and I was sweating like crazy especially when we cooked. The place heated up. Air conditioning units are needed. The beach.. beautiful beach BUT, it isn’t optimal for swimming. There is all this black stuff , soot or algae and as soon as u walk in it the water turns black. We came to swim so this was a major disappointment. I paid for 4 nights, we stayed 2 and stayed w friends the other 2 nights. Also no laundry puts a damper on things too. Overall a below average experience because we wanted a beach to swim in. Advertising a pretty beach, people think they can swim in nice water. This was not nice clean water unfortunately. I paid 546 a night and learned a big lesson.

Could be 5 Stars

House was very cozy & the back yard / private lake access was the winner with this property. However, the house needs a deep clean. Bathroom floors were dirty, toothpaste on framed picture in upstairs bathroom, big stain on carpet in upstairs bedroom & stains on bedspreads. Windows had cobwebs & dust on the blinds, dust on all logs on the walls, dust on the ceiling above the ceiling fan, etc. Wouldn't take much to deep clean these areas in between guests. House does not have A/C & some windows don't open so be aware if renting during hot months. I hate to even post this but we killed 2 cockroaches in the kitchen while we were there. Location & house is amazing - just needs a really deep clean to reach 5 star status.

Great place for toddlers!

We had a great time at Lakewood Lodge, particularly our two young toddlers who loved the sand and beach and shallow water. Everything was just what we wanted and expected. The yard is beautiful and provides shade as well as sun; there were plenty of spots to sit and relax, as well as eat outdoors.

Lakewood Lodge is a kid's delght

We stayed at the lodge the first week of August and hit perfect weather. The inside was clean and comfortable and provided plenty of room for the 8 of us. Super comfy furniture in the living room and a great beach on the lake shore. Our 3 kids age 5 thru 7 had a ball on the beach. Lynne knew we had kids in tow and provided a Lilypad float pad in the water for them to play on and they loved it. What a great addition! Thanks! She also left 2 kayaks instead of one which made for some great parent /child trips around the lake. The lake bottom is silty and shallow by dock but it did not slow the kids down at all and the water is crystal clear. The spacious very private yard made for plenty of shady places for our dogs to be secured. Everyday was finished with a fire and s'mores at the fire ring. Nice! Plenty of wood provided. The small fishing boat had some issues- the engine was not working well which Lynne had informed us of so no surprise and a little maintenance on some loose metal trim etc. would be helpful. It is a small boat and could accommodate one adult and a child (leaving room for their casting) and was used some for fishing. Fishing off the dock the kids caught too many bluegill to count plus a bass or perch now and then. All the fish were small but the kids loved it. Plenty of chairs and round picnic table on beach for the adults to lounge and keep an eye on the little ones. Things to know: The house has no air conditioning so if you happen to hit a real hot week it might be difficult to sleep at night but there are fans around. Any laundry needs have to be taken care of in Traverse City or Frankfort. Small kitchen but very serviceable with grill outside and plenty of seating outside on patio. August is active wasp and hornet season of course so may have to deal with that a little like all outdoor places. A nice rustic stay at a private, kid-friendly retreat.

Great place for a family vacay!

Such a great quiet lake! The beach area was clean, beautiful and very spacious . The cabin was well stocked with all the amenities for cooking. It was also nice to have enough towels for bathing and the beach. We couldn't decide if we loved the beach or the fire pit area the most, plenty of chairs in both areas.

Beautiful Interlochen home on lake

Our family of 8 adults and a Golden Retriever recently spent a wonderful week at Lakewood Lodge, which was an older log cabin home on quiet Bass Lake. All of the rooms were very comfortable, the property was on a quiet street with a large backyard with a firepit year, lots of lawn, a nice screened outdoor eating area and a comfortable small beach area with plenty of seating. We had access to a small motorized fishing boat and kayak and since the paddleboat was out of commission, Lynne was gracious enough to drop off another kayak for our use. I highly recommend this home for a larger group, close to Traverse City, restaurants, grocery stores, golfing.

Good time at Bass Lake Lodge.

Everything about the Lodge and property was great. Weather really hurt our outside activities. The sliding door by the kitchen has a problem. We did have ants 🐜. The boat motor wouldn’t start and we called the on site manger but he never took care of it. Given all of that the family still said that would like to go to your Lodge again next year. Thanks Shane

Enjoying the cold and the silence over a weekend at the cabin!

What a wonderful weekend! The cabin is everything that is posted online and much more. Plenty of space (we were 4 adults), convenient location, beautiful view of the lake and the fall colors. The location is fantastic and the weather was just perfect for our morning walk with the dog at this amazingly colorful private road. We enjoyed a barbecue outside with some good wine by the firepit. The cold was just perfect for my morning meditation at the dock with the lake natural background sound; and also for the late night wine by the fireplace surrounded by the wood crackling fire and some good conversation. Thanks Lynee for the welcome bottle of wine awaiting for us when we arrived in the rainy afternoon after 4 hours driving. The only missing piece was the firewood, but nothing that a quick trip to the local market could not resolve. I definitely recommend and am looking forward to my next trip to the Lakewood Lodge.

Great weekend getaway.

We had a wonderful weekend at the Lakewood Lodge. The place was very clean and decorated nicely. My husband and I wanted a weekend away for our 30th wedding anniversary. Although the weather wasn't great, the cozy fire inside was very relaxing. The property manager, Lynne was so nice and helpful. She always responded quickly if we had a question. We definitely want to visit again as this was the perfect place for us! Thank you Lynne!

August Get Away

Positives: well stocked kitchen, plenty of linens, large private yard, peaceful wooded setting, quiet inland lake, within about 45 minutes of sand dunes and traverse city. Negative: we found the lake to be unswimmable from the shore. The bottom was mucky, sooty, and full of seaweed. I went in once and came out with black soot in my bathing suit. This was my biggest disappointment with the rental since a nice beach was what I wanted most of all. For the amount of money it cost I was expecting a nice beach and good swimming.

Perfect escape

Was looking for a cabin in woods on the lake. This place had the perfect location for friends that live on Green Lake. We were able to hike empire bluff (20min) enjoy a lovely outdoor lunch in beulah (15min) and cook at the house with some friends. Beachfront provided the best morning coffee location. Wish I could have stayed longer. Was still able to work thanks to wifi. No complaints. Would rebook
